Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale rider takes his first Grand Tour victory

Paret-Peintre attacked on the final climb to win the 142km route from Pompeii to Cusano Mutri in three hours and 43 minutes.

Valentin Paret-Peintre of Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale launched a late attack on the final climb to win stage 10 of the 2024 Giro d'Italia on Tuesday. Paret-Peintre, who is riding in his first Grand Tour, attacked with around 2km to go on the 142km route from Pompeii to Cusano Mutri and soloed to victory.

The 22-year-old Frenchman held off a追击组 led by Mikel Landa (Bahrain-Victorious) and Vincenzo Nibali (Astana-Qazaqstan) to take his first Grand Tour victory. Paret-Peintre's victory is also the first for a French rider in this year's Giro.

The win is a major breakthrough for Paret-Peintre, who has been one of the most promising young riders in the peloton for the past few years. He was a member of the French team that won the silver medal in the team time trial at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and he finished second in the overall standings at the 2021 Tour de l'Avenir.
