Google outage hits during Aspen Security Forum

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike reports issue

Advisories issued by multiple banks

In a breaking story, Google.com is currently experiencing a widespread outage. The outage began at approximately 11:48pm on July 19, 2024, and is currently affecting users globally. According to the website Downdetector.com, the outage is impacting users in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

CrowdStrike, a US cybersecurity company with a market value of about 83 billion, has confirmed that the outage is related to a defect in its software. The company is currently investigating the issue and working to restore service.

The outage comes at a particularly inopportune time, as many of the US government's top cybersecurity officials are currently mingling with the industry's chiefs at the Aspen Security Forum. The forum is focused on discussing emerging threats to cybersecurity.

In separate advisories, BDO Unibank, Metrobank, RCBC, and the Bank of the Philippine Islands have all indicated that their online banking services are also experiencing intermittent disruptions. The banks are urging customers to use alternative channels such as mobile banking or ATMs.
